National Transition to Management plan for Branched broomrape (27 February 2012)
A representative from PHA attended a Branched Broomrape Steering Committee meeting on 16 February to discuss and finalise a National Transition to Management plan.
Branched broomrape is a parasitic weed (and therefore not covered by the EPPRD) that has been in Australia for a number of years, and has been subject to extensive attempts to eradicate it. PHA is involved in its Transition to Management plan due to its growing experience with handling similar programs for Asian honey bees and Myrtle rust.
Development of the Branched broomrape plan has been led by representatives from South Australia and informed by extensive consultation with affected producers in the area where the weed is found, affected industries, all state and territory governments and the Australian Government. The plan is intended to represent a collective position on the future management of Branched broomrape, and will be considered by the National Management Group on 29 February.
